A Humbling Experience

I read a devotional recently that captured my attention and made me think about the state of my heart. It said "if you ask for things from life instead of from God, you ask amiss; that is, you ask out of your desire for self-fulfillment. The more you fulfill yourself the less you will seek God." 

It is a humbling experience to knock at God's door. 

We are asking for His very best for us - which may not be what we have in mind. 

Being a true follower of Christ means getting into a position where we are seeking God, not self-fulfillment. 

We praise him in the storm 

and we choose joy in the waiting.

When You Wait, You Learn to Trust

I love these words by my wonderful friend Shelly Calcagno. 

Seasons of waiting (or patient endurance as God has taught me to name it) gives us a choice. A choice to get mad and throw our hands in the air and say "I don't understand you God!"... Or to choose to trust Him. 

When you are reminded of the true nature of God, and believe He wants His best for you, the wait is a blessing. 

Is it possible your waiting is His best for you right now? 

Don't settle for anything but God's best. 

Don't rush your dreams or goals based on your agenda. 

Don't cultivate a heart of worry - remember, worry is the absence of trust. 

Patiently endure this season of waiting while trusting the One who knows your heart and will guide your every step. 

He is good!

Adjust Your Sails

Life happens.
And by that, I mean situations and circumstances occur that are far beyond our control. 

A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor. 

So no matter what life throws at you today, choose to adjust your sails. 

Adjust your attitude. 

It's not a dead end, it's merely a detour! 

And God has every step planned. 

His word is a light to our path. 

Dig into Him and he will show you the way. 

We cannot prepare for the hurt and loss we may face in this life, 

but we can learn from the one who has felt the weight of our sin upon his shoulders. 

Jesus is our guide in the storm. 

He will teach us how to adjust the sails in our circumstances. 

We must be willing to listen.

Music has a way of conveying exactly how we feel when we can't describe it ourselves. This song has been on repeat for me - I love the sacrificial heart of the song. Putting our trust in God is not always an easy road but He is a loving Father and I have faith that I am standing in the best he has for me right now. Thy will be done. Your plans not mine. I want nothing less than your best Lord.

Don't Dig Up in Doubt What You've Planted in Faith

You gave it to God... 

But you never took your eyes off of it. 

You said you trust Him, 

but you keep focusing on the very thing you said you trusted Him with. 

Trust involves patience. 

Sometimes it means walking away and choosing faith over anxiety or worry. 

Are you digging up what you've already planted in faith? 

God wants us to trust Him with all our hearts and minds. 

Ask Him to help you take that step and fully rely on Him. 

He is good. 

He is loving. 

He is trustworthy. 

And His plans are far beyond what you could ask or imagine. 

But first, trust.

But we aren't to sit around in self-pity until God "shows up"! 

We must patiently endure with confident trust in the Lord 

that He is preparing His very best for us. 

Ask God what He desires for you to do, 

to work on,

in this season of patient endurance. 

Ask Him to reveal the depths of your own heart 

and help you to pursue purity, 


and faithfulness. 

Step into confident trust in Him 

and choose hope over worry and fear each day.

Time in God's Presence

It's a difficult habit to formulate -- I know this all too well. 

But what are we spending our time on every day? 

An hour getting ready, 

an hour on social media, 

15 minutes complaining about a coworker... 

Take note of your day and how you can eliminate the unnecessary and take time to instead dive into the presence of God. 

If you are in a relationship, you aim to spend time with that person to get to know them and make memories. 

Make Him a priority in your day to day. 

After all, it's a relationship!

He is So Faithful

Recently I visited a friend I haven't seen in months. Life has dramatically changed for the both of us -- she had a new home and a beautiful baby boy. She's one of the few people who has a similar mountain she faces every day with her family. Yet, the more I spoke with her about life and the struggles we have, the more I heard her say "He is so faithful". Something clicked for me. She started seeing beyond the mountain in front of her. She started focusing on the true character of Christ and held tightly to His promise. There are some mountains in our lives that may never move, but even so, God is so faithful. I'm making a dedication to start putting this truth into my vocabulary daily and I challenge you do to the same. Be reminded that His ways are not our ways. He is good, He is faithful, He is trustworthy.

Do What is Right, Not What is Easy

Think of the majesty of that scripture...

He has places his law within our hearts and written them upon our minds. 

We already know what is right. 

We already know what we must do. 

Following Christ was never meant to be a walk in the park. 

He said pick up your cross! 

What do you have to do today to pick up your cross and follow him? 

What must you do that is right but not easy? 

Ask God for guidance in that conversation or action.

I promise you, he calls us to these moments for a purpose. 

He can use you in ways you can't even imagine yet. 

Seek obedience. 

Step out of your comfort zone. 

Pick up your cross.
