3 Ways to Stay Motivated

by - 6:30 AM

Ah Mondays.

Working as a social media lead for a television station, distribution company and a tv show, I'm very in tune with the daily trending topics on Twitter and Instagram.
#MondayMotivation is always a fun one!

In my life, currently my Monday hashtag is #MastersMonday!

My new typical Monday is 8 hours of work, 1 hour of driving, 4 hours of class engaging in theological discussion, 1 more hour of driving home, and then usually me giving into my peanut butter and jelly sandwich craving at 11pm before bedtime!

I've been asked quite a few times how I stay motivated and on top of everything so I thought I would share a few tips on how to stay motivated with my current long-term goal of pursuing my Masters (with short-term deadlines!) and hopefully it will help you too!

Tip 1: Purpose Not Perfection

Ask yourself "what is the purpose of this goal?"

You may have read my previous blog "Purpose Not Perfection" but if you haven't, this is a lesson that is new to me in 2016! "Purpose" is the word I chose to live by this year and it's allowed me to ask myself "what is the purpose of this and how do I accomplish it?" It has also pushed me away from pursuing perfection and being okay with that!

When I think about the purpose of my pursuing my Master's program, it actually has absolutely nothing to do with my grades! The purpose is to learn and grow spiritually and intellectually in the bible. If that purpose is fulfilled, it will be reflected in my grades BUT I do not stress about my grades. Unlike University, I am finding this alone has removed a significant amount of stress from my life and has allowed me to enjoy the process of my education!

Tip 2: Post Away!

Get social and post your short-term accomplishments online!

Okay, okay, we all have those friends who post too much on social media about how amazing their life is BUT I do believe that your family and friends want to hear about your life! Especially if you are going after a big goal and you don't necessarily have a direct support system around you. Don't go overboard, but post about your short term accomplishments and I guarantee you will see support flow in. It shows you that people are rooting for you and they believe in you!

Tip 3: Reward Yourself!

Celebrate the victories & pamper yourself!

Ah yes.
Because what good is accomplishing the short-term goals without a little reward?!

I've made a decision to reward myself once a month. Whether it be to get my nails done, get a massage, or go shopping for some new clothes, this makes me feel like I am not just consumed with work and studies but that I am enjoying the fruit of my labour!

I've written this one down on my chalkboard wall in my apartment to be reminded as life gets busy and it's VERY easy to ignore this one. Prioritize time with a friend, go out for dinner, go to the movies, do some online shopping - whatever it is, do something that makes you smile and takes your mind off the heavy to-do list... at least for a little while.
