My Word of 2017: Preparation

Every new year at church we choose a word for the year ahead.

Last year I choose the word "Purpose" which allowed me to question a lot of relationships, anxieties, and decisions I've made. Focusing on purpose essentially was like putting a giant mirror up to my life, piece by piece, and asking "what is the purpose of _______?"

This year, I chose a word that is a direct reflection of the stage of life I am in.

With a current job change, being half way done my Masters, and getting ready to move into the city, the word "Preparation" seemed fitting.

This year, no matter the anxieties or challenges that come my way, I am choosing to see them as growing opportunities. Like a farmer labouring in the field, planting seed in the ground, so is my 2017.

I will strategically sow spiritually, emotionally, relationally and physically so that in 2018, I can look back on this year and see the growth.

I don't know what this year has for me,

but I know Who will guide me through it all.

Keep This in Your Heart

A little reminder that you were made for greater things

than to dwell on what others say about you,

because our God says you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Keep that in your heart.

When You Face Your Fears, They Get Smaller Every Time

My biggest enemy is sometimes myself.

I don't mean that in a self-deprecating way, but rather that I'm acknowledging my weakness in not always fully trusting God.

He puts these opportunities in front of me but I convince myself I'm far too weak to jump in. I convince myself that He's got it all wrong -- that the open door in front of me is not for me to walk through.

I convince myself that my skills and strengths are better used in my comfort zone, not in the land of the unknown.

Cheryl Weber is someone I've considered a friend and mentor for the last 5 years and she's never given up. No matter how many times I limit myself, or say I can't do it she reminds me that it has nothing to do with me.

And she's right!

It's all about God.

The opportunities He places in front of me to take are not for the purpose of lifting me up to a higher place, but rather lifting HIS name.

My fear and insecurities get the best of me, and hidden by a thick layer of pride, I've managed to avoid opportunities God has placed before me.

But I'm on a new journey - I'm attempting to live the life God called me to.

It's a journey of self-awareness, attempted humility and constantly checking my pride at the door.  I'm not perfect and I have a LONG way to go, but I know this is a break through to step into all He has for me.

I will not get in the way of His good and perfect gifts!

A Question That has Held me Accountable

Two years ago I had coffee with a friend and she asked me a question that would hold me accountable: what book of the bible are you currently reading?

Although at the time I didn't have an answer for her, that question stuck with me.

I appreciated her asking because as Christians we should hold one another accountable to keep seeking God! So, here I am asking you.

What book of the bible are you currently reading?

And if you don't have an answer, reading the book of Hebrews currently has been refreshing for my soul and I highly recommend starting there!

You're the Peace that Calms the Storms Within Me

You are all my heart was searching for,

Your love has opened up the door,

You've entered my heart forever,

and I will never be the same.

I'll worship You all my days,

this love was made to last forever,

You're the peace that calmed the storms inside of me,

that tore down every veil in between,

You're the power death could not defeat.

Lord, you are."

This is Not Your Permanent Destination

He holds the blueprint to your path, anticipating every obstruction and dead end you may come across.

You took His hand years ago, entrusting your life to a King.

But recently, you've stopped.

You've let go of His hand.

You can't recognize that still small voice that's been guiding you all these years anymore.

You're stuck.

You're focused on what's in front of you, you're missing Who is right beside you.

Dig into His word again, discover His blueprint for your life.

Get acquainted with His voice and be reminded that your current situation IS NOT your permanent destination.

He has so much more ahead for you -- it's all part of the path.

Take His hand.

Keep walking.

Are You Willing to Move Your Feet?

Are you willing?
What if He asked you to leave your home?

Your family?

Your country to follow Him?....

Would you do it?

Pursue a willing heart.

You may not be there yet - willing to leave it all behind for Christ's sake - but you can start by acknowledging the things in your life that are becoming idols.

Make a list of the things you spend the most time on day to day.

Are your priorities how you want them to be?

Be conscious of how you are spending your life.

Is this what Christ died for?

Reevaluate.

Be brave.

Step out into the unknown.

Take a leap of faith.

Because you never know what incredible journey He has around the corner if only we are willing to move!

How Much of What is Weighing You Down isn't Yours to Carry?

What if I told you what is overtaking your thoughts, isn't yours to carry?

What if you weren't meant to carry that worry and pain beyond the cross?

You see, He knows.

I know it may not feel like He's with you, but as you are reading this, this is His gentle voice to your soul saying:

My daughter. I understand.

My daughter, I'm here.

My daughter, trust me with this.

Be released from all that is weighing you down.

We have a powerful, loving King who is trustworthy with your heart.

Hand over the vulnerable, fragile corners of your heart to the One whom holds the blueprint to your path.

Start listening to His still, small voice.

Let go, and look to Him for guidance every next step.

It's amazing how free we are, if we are willing to let God be God in our lives.

I Want an Unconditional Faith

I want an unconditional faith.

I want to be consistent in my hope and trust in my God.

I want to be able to persistently endure the storms of this life as I've built my home on the rock. I desire to love my God unconditionally.

When things aren't going as planned, or my dreams never come to pass...

When the path before me changes, and I'm only shown the next step...

When I'm asked of Him to be brave and make a big move...

I want to have an unconditional faith in Him.

If You Wait for Perfect Conditions Nothing Will Ever Get Accomplished

It's easy to get off track, to find excuses, to say "I'll start Monday".

But our faith can't be a conditional faith!

We have been called to be brave and to trust Him above our own understanding.

When you think He is asking you to do something, don't wait for the perfect moment or for everything to be lined up perfectly.

Perhaps that day will never come!

Do it now.

Be obedient in the now.

Forgive.

Take that risk.

Make that move.

Dive into His word now.

Don't wait a second longer because if you wait for the perfect conditions, perhaps nothing will ever get accomplished.

Put on the New Nature

“Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned
the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature
and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.
Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.
Put on your new nature, created to be like God
—truly righteous and holy.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:21-24‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As you step into a new day, a new week, a new season, put on the new self as you would carefully choose your clothing for a fancy dinner. Sometimes we spend more time getting our physical self ready, and not enough time clothing our spiritual self. This "putting on" of new nature is a choice. A choice to walk away from former ways of thinking and acting, a choice to cling to the higher standard of living to which you have been called. We must "put on" and clothe ourselves with humility, peace, love, kindness, hope, strength and dignity. Get your spiritual self ready for a new week, a new season, and cloth yourself in His righteousness!

He Longs to Make Your Life a Glorious Adventure

Don't turn back now.
Don't run to the safety of what was.

Your King has so much more than the scraps of your past!

He wants to make this life a glorious adventure - you and Him.

But you're tunnel visioned.

Let go of what was and take His hand, stepping forward into the majestic plan He has layed out before you.

It's going to be scary at times, but if you keep holding His hand, He won't let you go!

Trust Him.

He wants to make this life a glorious adventure!
